Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (evap) system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister.

• Recall 233264 [USA]: Windshield wipers that cannot be activated may lead to reduced visibility for the driver and increase the risk of a crash.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, the warning label for the engine block heater cable is written in english only. As a result, a french user may not receive important safety information about how to use the engine block heater. A label that is not provided in both official languages could create confusion. Safety risk: user confusion could increase the risk of injury when trying to use the block heater. Corrective actions: the company will mail each owner a new label for the block heater cable. • Recall 2019116 [Canada]: Suspension
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the rear suspension coil springs may not have been properly manufactured and could break over time. This could cause damage to a rear tire, resulting in rapid air loss and/or tire failure. Safety risk: a rear tire failure could affect vehicle control. Additionally, a broken coil spring could also create a road hazard for other motorists. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have both of the rear axle coil springs replaced.   On certain vehicles, the camshaft lobe which actuates the vacuum pump may fail, causing the pump to fail to deliver further vacuum supply to the brake booster, potentially increasing stopping distances. • Fuel leak due to suction jet pump failure within fuel tank (remedy effectiveness of recall 16v-647) investigation as of 20231212

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 79 complaints and several tread (transportation recall enhancement, accountability and documentation) field reports alleging a fuel leak, refueling spit back, refueling shutoff, or fuel odor in model year (my) 2015-2020 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles manufactured by volkswagen (vw). the complaints allege that these conditions are caused by the failure of the suction jet pump located in the fuel tank. Some consumers report puddles, pools, or spots of fuel in the rear right area of the vehicle, near the fuel tank filler door and rear right wheel well. The fuel tank either straddles the exhaust pipe leading to the muffler or is adjacent to this pipe in these vehicles. Fuel leaking near exhaust system components has a higher potential risk of fire as the components are operating at higher temperatures compared to other areas of the vehicle. No fires have been connected to this issue to date. Vw issued recall 16v-647 on september 2, 2016, for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank, which was designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (evap) system and stated the suction jet pump may have been damaged during assembly. Vw states that this damage could potentially allow fuel to flow directly into the evap system which may, over time, accumulate in and cause a leak from the charcoal canister filter element. This recall covered certain my 2015-2016 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles. Repair in recall 16v-647 replaces the suction jet pump only. In october 2022, vw issued warranty extensions (awa-22-12 & vwp-22-12) for the fuel tank suction jet pump in my 2015-2020 audi a3 / volkswagen golf and my 2019-2020 jetta gli vehicles for 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Warranty extension repair is the replacement of the fuel tank. The new fuel tank includes an improved suction jet pump. Vehicles included within recall 16v-647 are included within the scope of the warranty extensions. Should the suction jet pump installed as the remedy for recall 16v-647 fail, these vehicles will receive an improved suction jet pump in the new fuel tank. The warranty extension only applies to vehicles that experience the subject failure. Consumers received notification of the warranty extensions via mail. The thermostat housing and water pump are leaking due to a known manufacturing defect. I had the water pump and thermostat housing replaced around 65,000 miles from an independent volkswagen mechanic. He informed me that it appears the water pump had been replaced prior to my ownership of the vehicle. (41,000 miles). Again, i have to replace the thermostat housing and water pump, for a leak. The failure causes a leak in the pressurized cooling system. The leak is small while parked so there is no noticeable puddle but as the system warms up, the leak happens faster. Because of this issue, i have had multiple warning messages while driving, low coolant level, check engine light, and epc (electronic power control, which disables activate cruise control and front collision detection systems). On multiple occasions, i was stranded waiting on help because of the failure. As stated, this is a known issue from the manufacturer, as they have had at least 7 revisions to the part. The manufacturer is currently on revision “m”, i am only aware of revisions “f, g, h, j, k, l” and the current revision “m”. As previously stated, this is the second time i personally have had to pay out of pocket for this repair.

Trim around the shifter boot has delaminated, and when reaching into the storage compartment causes lacerations to the hand. Razor sharp metal protrudes and cuts fingers and hands on all 2016 golf r and gti vehicles

1. I believe the driver's side airbag may have failed or been disabled during a recent collision that occurred on 5/25/21. A deer struck the front end of my vehicle while traveling on a 55mph state highway. The vehicle is currently at a collision repair shop getting an estimate. The sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene gave an initial damage estimate of $9000.00. 2. Immediately upon impact the airbag error light illuminated but did not deploy. 3.On 5/26/21, the day after my accident, i received a warranty extension notice due to a potential clock spring failure that could result in the driver's side airbag not deploying. 4. Vehicle has been inspected by sheriff's dept and is currently be evaluated by collision specialist and insurance adjuster. 5. The airbag error light had never illuminated prior to the accident.

Sunroof is leaking

The gear shifter inside vehicle has a decorative aluminum trim that when you slide your hand in center cubby over time tends to separate. It creates sharp edges and i cut my hand while retrieving something from center console cubby.

I purchased my 2016 vw golf sportwagen in 2019. Soon after, there was a rainstorm, and i realized the panoramic sunroof was leaking heavily along the back panel of the car. The dealership i purchased the vehicle from had the car for about a month, and was able to correct the problem, as well as replace the headliner. Vw issued a recall on the front sunroof drains in 2020, in which they modified the drains. Once this was performed, the sunroof began leaking again. I have had to replace the rear sensors, which were damaged due to water damage. This repair was extremely costly, but i was told i could do nothing about it, because vw won't cover costs from faulty parts. I am now looking at another costly repair of the sunroof, and a second headliner replacement, within 2 years of owning this vehicle.

Existing nhtsa recall 69l2 but on different model year - vw driver side airbag and horn/steering wheel buttons disabled. My airbag warning light came on and my horn and steering wheel buttons became disabled simultaneously as i was in motion driving down the road. Now my airbag and horn/buttons are not working including cruise control. Vw recalled earlier-model vehicles but this appears to be a problem that still hasn't been solved and affects more than just the models listed in the original recall. Existing nhtsa recall 69l2 but on different model year - vw driver side airbag and horn/steering wheel buttons disabled. My airbag warning light came on and my horn and steering wheel buttons became disabled simultaneously as i was in motion driving down the road. 2016 vw golf sportwagen experienced a coolant leak at the thermostat housing/water pump at approximately 76,000 miles. This seems to be a common issue with the 1.8 engine. Coolant leak from the water pump and thermostat housing. The water pump and thermostat were replaced under warrant. I believe it is leaking again as it was replaced with the same faulty parts and i have noticed a slight drop in coolant and a smell, which was the issue originally.

The rainwater began pouring out under the steering wheel/fuse box area and came through the entire perimeter of the sunroof into the cabin of the car. Vw told me that all repairs relating to the sunroof leak would be covered under the service action. My daughter has a compromised immune system and is very sensitive to mold and allergens. The service advisor said the headliner and all electrical would be dried with fans and cleaned as necessary. Please take a look at the three attached photos. This damage is a result of a known defect with the design of the sunroof and i feel it has not been repaired to the state it was in before the leak occurred. This is just the visible water damage. During normal driving conditions the cel turned on and the car indicated it was low on coolant. I topped of the reservoir and a couple of weeks later it had gone back down.

I was in a very minor accident involving only the front end. I was a a complete stop at a traffic light and hit the car directly in front of me, i hit the car car going no more than 10 miles per hour. All of the air bags deployed, driver, passenger, as well as front and back side airbags. Additionally, when the airbags deployed the windshield completely shattered on the passenger side. Luckily my son was not injured with the extreme fore of the airbag deployment. I took the car for an estimate and just for the inside airbag damage the total would be $9,300. This was an extreme shock, not only when the minor fender bender occured but now the car is totaled because of the airbag deployment.In this situation the airbags should not have gone off for such a minor crash. I need this to be looked into for other people's safety.

Sunroof drain reinforcement steel has developed stress cracks. Which has let water leak inside vehicle, onto headliner and down a-pillars saturating front side curtain airbags making them defective. Vehicle can be stationary or operated, it will leak either way. Volkswagen refuses to address issue with airbags and leak saying there is not a safety issue so they wont cover repair which could cost greater than $2,500. Vehicle has also developed black mold between roof and headliner which is hazardous to breath. Technical bulletin #60-17-01(v601701) is the repair instructions for dealership only repair but does not include airbag replace or headliner replacement. My car with approximately 25k miles on it. Airbag light came on. At the same time, my horn, and other components on my steering wheel stopped working. When i diagnosed my car it was determined it was the clock spring in the steering wheel that stopped working. A faulty clock spring will make it so that my airbag does not function. The contact managed to drive the vehicle and noticed fuel leaking from the fuel tank. While driving, the epc warning light comes on and the engine lowers its speed. Sometimes engine overheating warning also comes on at the same time. Bad rear suspension is deforming the tire and could possiucause a blow out

Sunroof frame leaks water into the car. The water drips on to the center console hardware/electronics and hardware/electronics located on the windshield. The leak is a known defect for vw golf 2016, as vw previously sent out a recall for the sunroof frame. The leak occurs after heavy rainfall. The water drips right on to the acc cruise control. Vw acknowledged in phone message that source of leak was sunroof and that it should be covered by the recall. Originally, i thought the leak derived from dirty drains, but vw clarified the root cause as the sunroof. However, they did not follow up with me. I re-engaged them and they stated they would need to test it again. After the second test, they said they could not reproduce my claim despite despite the initial, positive identification of the sunroof as the leak. I am worried that this will cause other, more serious problems if left untreated. The leak can occur with the car either stationary or in motion. However, the leak is more prominent when stationary. For example, my car leaks the worst when i leave it in the parking lot at work during heavy rainfall. Upon entering my car, standing water will have pooled up in the gear selector cover and drips from my rear view mirror on to the center console. I still possess the voicemail where they identified the sunroof as the source of the leak. I attached a photo of the water stains because it was not raining when i filed the complaint.

I started my car and the airbag warning light came on. I then noticed that all controls on my steering wheel no longer worked. This includes speed control, horn, hands-free phone controls, hands-free radio controls an vehicle information options. I assume that the air bag is also not functioning. When i returned home, i googled the problem and found that the airbag clock spring was the probable cause as it had been recalled in previous years but did not include the 2016 model. I took the car in on 02/12/19. They diagnosed error code B10001 - internal failure in clock spring. My car has 39,492 miles which makes it out of warranty. I declined repair ($551.29) as i feel it should be fixed for free. I have 2 attachments.

On jan. 5th 2019 the dashboard warning system showed a "error - transmission". We had it towed to the dealership - they said it was the shifter unit, and that it was not covered under the "powertrain" warranty. We were told it was still safe to drive while they ordered parts. While driving it home from the dealer, it would hesitate when starting off from a stop - with oncomming traffic, this can be a unsafe option. Looking on several vw support forums, i see this same problem come up often - most are covered under warranty because they happen earlier than ours did (36,714 miles). To me it seems vw has a problem with these shifter units, but will not do anything about it unless they are forced to.

I was driving on the freeway and heard a loud pop like a gun shot. I looked up and it was my moon roof. It was as if it had blown out. I was not under an underpass or near any vehicles that could have thrown a rock. It happened like combustion. So random and scary! If i wouldn't have had the shade closed, i would have been covered in glass. This was an ordinary morning with temps around 60 degrees. I am shocked to see that this has been a problem for many and yet there is no safety recall. Please help.

The drain on retractable roof became blocked. Rainwater drained into car saturating carpets. Water flowed into control system causing an emergency dashboard alert to stop driving immediately while driving on highway. This event occurred twice: firstly in new york then two weeks later in pa. Vw service in pa replaced connectors. Vw service in brooklyn ny and westchester pa explained that there is a design fault in the drainage system in the retractable roof.

Recall has been out for 6 months, still no fix available.

Micro switch recall. The key may be stuck in the ignition while in park and cannot be removed. I was notified in july 2018. Wanted to trade the car in january 2019 and the dealer gave me a very low trade value due to the incomplete recall! Can't answer your question about when it happened. Does not apply. It was in july 2018 when i was notified.

The left rear wheel speed sensor malfunctioned resulting in false warnings of air bag, stabilization control, abs system, and tire pressure failures. A replacement part is on back order and/or unavailable. This will result in disregard of any of the above warnings in the future even if they are genuine. This problem occurs randomly at any speed.

Metal trim on the bezel of the gear selector (at the base) has peeled off and cracked. It is very sharp and i cut my hand. It appears that this is a common issue with cars on this platform (golf, gti, golf sportwagen).

Continental procontact' tx 195/65r15 rt rear tire side wall blew out with no warning. Car has 16000 miles and has been dealer serviced since new. Car was accelerating on freeway on ramp when vibration and thump were felt inside the car. Driver pulled into secure area and saw that tire sidewall had blown out on inside and outside sidewalls. Tire was replaced by volkswagen dealership at owners expense.

While driving i completed a u-turn and my airbag light came on. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the clock spring mechanism that failed and was no longer under warranty. Warranty was 3 year or 43,000 miles, my vehicle had 48,846 miles. The cost was $545.95 to replace the part. I researched this part and found that there are previous recalls due to failure.

Despite a 2015 recall, 2016 golfs are still being affected by faulty clock spring setups and a lack of some type of cover that is preventing debris from getting inside and breaking them. While driving the car, the airbag warning light went on. I then noticed that none of the control features on the steering wheel worked.. No cruise control, not horn, no system data, etc. Upon further investigation i discovered that the clock spring was the reason for the problem and that this has been an ongoing problem that vw has known about since 2011. Only after an investigation was vw forced into doing a recall in 2015. The problem obviously still exists since there are a number of continued complaints still being filed.

Was hit in the rear, other driver was traveling around 55 mph as i was slowing down (around 5 mph) turning right from a highway onto another road. Impact was enough to crush the rear floor pan and bend the frame. I smelled and saw smoke coming from the steering column after the impact. None of the airbags in the whole car went off but the airbag light came on and vehicle status says "error: airbag".

They are claiming that that i only drive a few miles a day, so the car doesn't have enough time to warm up and that is why i do not get the stated mileage. It's a ridiculous claim. I feel like this is another vw scandal. I need to escalate the resolution of this issue as i have plenty of proof on the issue. Let me know if you are the correct government department to deal with this issue.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred twice. The first failure was covered by the manufacturer. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,669.

The vehicle was taken numerous times to an unknown volkswagen dealer. The dealer replaced the sun roof sealant, but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sun roof rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 7,000.

Persistent fuel smell. Vehicle recall was performed, vehicle was repaired twice at dealership for same problem. Carbon filter was replaced, fuel sensor and fuel injectors replaced (under warranty). Smell most noticeable after being driven for 10-30 minutes, then parked for 10 minutes to 1 hour.

The backup camera intermittently fails to operate, displaying the message "parkpilot is currently not available." this happens when the vehicle is put into reverse and occurs at random. The vehicle has been brought to the dealer for repair numerous times over the years and they have failed to fix it every time. This is a recurring issue since initial purchase in 2016 and no solution has been found to date. They have performed software updates, worked on the head-unit, and replaced the backup camera, and nothing has solved this problem. My buy back request has been denied by vw. This problem effects only base model mk7 golf r's and there are numerous online forums with other owners reporting the same issue. This failure occurs on average once per day. The camera does not start working again until the car is off for an unknown length of time. There is no way for the driver to safely reset the system while in use to regain functionality. This makes backing up extremely unsafe and introduces large blind spots.

Steering power assist "twitches" while car is in motion. Happens at random times, speeds and steering conditions while driving....Enough to jerk the car into the next lane. Might be tied to vw's dsr or dynamic steering recommendation setting in the vehicle computer.

Brake failure. The car was being driven around 20mph, when a 'brake: fluid low see owner's manual' message came on. After seeing this message pressure was applied to the brake pedal and the pedal went to the floor. The pedal made a 'chattering noise' as it moved through the pedal stroke. The parking brake was used to stop the car. This was easily recreated in a parking lot and at the local dealer. The warning light came on each time the car was started after the initial incident, and when pressure was applied to the pedal, the pedal easily went to the floor making the same chattering noise. There were no symptoms before this incident. The brake system seemed to function as it should and had every other time the car was driven. I checked for brake fluid leaks at the master cylinder and at each of the four calipers, and did not find any leaked fluid. It appeared that there was still brake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir. Upon initial contact, the dealer said they had never seen this before. After their initial assessment by the dealer, they believed it was a master cylinder issue and the seal on the side of the brake booster had failed, and brake fluid leaked into the booster.

Current generation of vw golf r (aka mk7) was sold in 2016 in single wheel/tire combination. Default selection consist of 19" cadiz wheels paired with low profile summer tires. There are no alternative configurations available. Previous models were offered with more durable 18" combination. Complaint is threefold: 1. Volkswagen decided to offer no spare tire (although one can be added (from audi a3) by small retrofit). This forces disabled vehicle to create obstruction possibly for extended period as it requires roadside assistance for towing (vw "conveniently" will tow to dealer for tire/wheel replacement). Lack of spare or run-flats puts driver and occupants at risk if vehicle is disabled on the road and immobilized for extended period of time. 2. Volkswagen willingly only provided only single wheel/tire option that is unsuitable for common highway roads. Wheel is weaker than one offered in predecessor and together with low profile tire offer limited rebound when contacted with common road obstacles (i define them as mild potholes, crescent, bridge joints, temporary steal bases). This in consequence results in high risk of blowout (happened twice on northbound i-95 in new york, by ct border). Low rebound also results in transfer of shock directly to occupants. Consequently driver must follow erratic driving pattern to avoid common road defects (other vehicles negotiate them safely) or slow down significantly, exponentially increasing risk of rear-end accident. 3. Car is only sold with summer tires. I bought it in the middle of ny winter. There are no warnings or any communication from vw that they are highly unsafe in winter. When contacting vw, they offered to sell additional set of wheels. I believe car is unsafe by default. Since vw offered no option to select safer wheels/tires at purchase, i believe they are willingly placing people at risk.

Fuel odor in car cabin usually after the car is started after being run and sitting briefly off. The problem has persisted after suction pump recall work was done.

The contact indicated that the vehicle's speed would increase by approximately 35 mph without depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to several dealers who indicated that the issue was a characteristic of the vehicle and no failure was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.

The parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the vehicle did not receive adequate fuel mileage and that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The local dealer (ourisman volkswagen of bethesda located at 7001 arlington rd, bethesda, maryland 20814) was contacted and informed the contact that they had not received parts from the manufacturer and that the contact was placed on a waiting list. The manufacturer was making florida and puerto rico a priority first. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Engine misfired and cause the car to stutter with loss of performance. This happened to me when making a left hand turn nearly causing an accident because the car was not moving at the normal speed due to loss of performance. This is the 3rd time the engine has misfired since i bought the car. It has less than 2,800 miles on it.

The contact had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. It was diagnosed that there was a mechanical failure in the vacuum pump. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 9,558. The consumer stated the concern was that the vehicle was repaired with the same oem part that initially failed. The manufacturer was notified. The consumer requested for the vehicle to be bought back but, the manufacturer declined and offered a 200.00 gift card. *js

Sudden violent shaking while driving. They replaced all four fuel injectors, second time happened a month later. Shaking while driving. They cannot fix. Miles just under 2000 on second occurrence.

Rear view camera operation is intermittent. When parked and activating reverse, the display screen sometimes displays "park pilot currently not available" and the rear camera is disabled. This happens about one time in every 10 times the camera is used. It has happened many times in the 1 year, 5 months that i have owned the car. Backing up without a view to the back is very dangerous in many situations. The dealer has attempted to fix this problem six times with no success. A lemon law complaint (florida) has been made.

On manual transmission vehicles cruise control does not deactivate when depressing clutch, changing gear. Once clutch is released cruise automatically re engages. This is a huge safety liability. Vw calls it a new feature, this feature has caused a few near misses.. This feature will eventually cause an accident i've been driving manual transmission cars for over 20 years and every time the clutch is depressed cruise turns off and will only re-engage once the button is depressed.

- vehicle is getting 19mpg (mostly highway). Mpg on car is well below published range of 22-31. Vw tell me that i will only get the published mpg after 9000 miles!! - carplay system is not connecting to *any* apple iphone. - infotainment system is sometimes not turning on - keyless start is intermitently functioning. Cannot get car to start despite the key being placed next to steering column. - reversing camera fails to engage often. - locking (beep) confirmation is not working consistently. Vw of america will not buy back this car and expect me to accept a brand new vehicle with all these problems and leave it at the shop for repair!

Safety issue - 2016 egolf would not move after a routine traffic stop with "main charging failed" error. During a normal commute after 3, 4 miles of driving 30 - 40 mph, car wouldn't move after a routine traffic stop right after a traffic light. This is evening 6pm rush hour traffic, car just stopped in the middle of the road. While rest of the systems seem to be functioning, the car ignition is on, pressing accelerator pedal doesn't do anything with "electrical error , stop" message on the dash. After getting stuck in a lane for an hour in rush hour traffic, got the car towed to nearby vw dealer. Dealer informed that the main charging module that charges battery failed, which needs to be replaced with new part form germany. It could take up to two weeks. Safety issue - the fact that car just stops while driving even though the battery has plenty of charge left poses a serious and significant safety risk. A serious accident is just waiting to happen.I was told that the design protects drivers against getting stranded after battery is discharged, since the charging module failed. This seems totally illogical that the design is trying to protect you from stranded when battery runs out, so it rather stop in the middle of the road to get the module fixed before you can drive it to a safe place. There are quite a few incidents reported like this, so vw has a serious safety issue to fix on 2016 egolf immediately. Maybe it requires a design fix to let drivers drive to a dealer to get the faulty part to be fixed, instead of stranding in the middle of the road.

Two primary problems with this car at this time: 1. Epc (engine power control) light comes on frequently while driving at street and freeway speeds. When the light comes on the car jerks forward and rides rough. I am concerned about the safety of this car and it not running correctly. The car manual indicates that when the epc light is displayed the engine is malfunctioning. 2. The bluetooth/infotainment system will intermittently freeze and the phone will not disconnect and the radio will work. This is also a safety issue since i have to constantly adjust the settings to try and fix it and pull over the car, turn off the car and try and fix the problem. I have taken the car to a volkswagen dealer /service center on multiple occasions to fix both problems and they have been unable to fix either problem.
